Global Warming Potential (GWP)

• Measure of how much warming the refrigerant can contribute relative to CO₂
• A GWP of 100 means that 1 pound of the refrigerant has the same warming impact as 100 lbs. of CO₂

GWP Isn’t The Whole Story

• Life Cycle Climate Performance (LCCP) is the combined effect of the direct GWP impact plus the indirect effect (CO₂ is created to generate the electricity used by the equipment)  
• A less efficient refrigerant causes the equipment to use more electricity, releasing more CO₂ through the grid emissions
